January
3 kinds of light
1 January 2008
Project for this month is three lighting situations of the same subject.
Available light, see what is the slowest shutter speed you can hold your camera, without camera shake, this is an excellent way to test your nerves.
If you have the facility for changing ISO setting then increase the speed, or rest the camera on something, if you want to be brave; hold your camera in nice grip, hold your breath, get a good stance and slowly push down shutter, some camera will have delay so try this instead, that way you will not be moving anything.
Second shot artificial light, tungsten and/or fluorescent or the same subject. Maybe set camera on tripod or rest and move light around with light on a flex.
And thirdly using flash can be direct or bounced, you might consider using a diffuser in front of flash, tracing paper or tissue works well.
So think of your subject, living of otherwise, how best to tackle it and go for it. The point of this exercise is to prove that their is more ways than one to light a subject all of which will give very different results.
Project for January, as set by our resident professional, Nigel, is Lighting.
